Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: The Road to the Southwest
- Morning: An early 6:00 AM departure from Kampala or Entebbe helps avoid city traffic.
- Stopover: Your first break is at the Uganda Equator. Enjoy the scenery, participate in the water flow experiment, and browse the local craft shops for souvenirs.
- Afternoon: Continue through the rolling grasslands where long-horned Ankole cattle graze. We stop for a fresh lunch in Mbarara town before winding through the steep, terraced hills of Kabale.
- Evening: Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Check into your lodge, enjoy a warm dinner, and prepare for tomorrow’s trek.
- Overnight Options: Bwindi Lodge (Luxury), Gorilla Mist Camp (Mid-range), or Broadbill Forest Camp (Budget).
Day 2: The Gorilla Encounter & Batwa Heritage
- Morning: After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters at 7:00 AM for a briefing by the rangers. Armed with your walking stick, enter the forest on foot to track the gorillas.
- The Trek: Depending on the gorillas’ movement, the trek can be physically challenging but rewarding. Along the way, look out for white colobus monkeys, forest elephants, and rare bird species.
- The Meeting: Spend one hour observing the gorillas—watching them feed, groom, and play just meters away. This is a quiet, profound experience (no flash photography allowed).
- Afternoon: Return to headquarters for a graduation ceremony to receive your trekking certificate. Later, embark on the Batwa Trail to learn about the ancient forest life of the Batwa people, including a visit to a traditional local doctor.
- Overnight: Same as Day 1.
Day 3: Cultural Heritage & Return Journey
- Morning: Enjoy a final highland breakfast before beginning the journey back to Kampala.
- Stopover: Stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre near Mbarara to learn about the rich history of the western Ugandan tribes. This is an excellent spot to pick up high-quality local crafts.
- Afternoon: After lunch in Mbarara, continue the scenic drive back to central Uganda.
- Evening: Arrival in Kampala or transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your evening departure.
